Hi, I’m Heather Wren, real estate investor, PadSplit’s first-ever Host, and a big believer that housing can change lives (including your own).
I didn’t set out to be a landlord. My first rental was a bit of an accident, a fixer-upper in East Atlanta that taught me more lessons than I bargained for. Over time, those lessons turned into a business. I learned what works, what absolutely doesn’t, and how to create housing that’s both profitable and deeply meaningful.
In 2014, my husband Alan and I created what we called The Wren Escape Plan, a roadmap to build financial freedom through real estate. By the time I discovered PadSplit in 2017, everything clicked. Shared housing solved so many of the problems I’d faced as a landlord—turnover, vacancies, and chaos—while helping real people find affordable, stable places to live. That model completely reshaped how I saw my role as an investor.
Since then, my homes have housed hundreds of members, people who needed a fresh start, a safe place, or just a fair shot. Watching members like Amber, who went from living in her car to launching her own cleaning and management business, reminded me that this work goes far beyond rent checks.
Today, I live in Spain and run Coliving Success, where I teach other hosts and investors how to create financially sustainable, community-driven coliving businesses. I believe housing can be both a smart investment and a force for good, and that when done right, it can change your life.
